Chelsea, Spurs dominate Premier League player nominations

Sunday's win means that Tottenham will now finish in second place in the Premier League table, and whilst their attempts to chase down Chelsea fell flat, it has been another successful season for Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea were crowned champions on Friday thanks to a 1-0 win over West Brom, which came about thanks to a late goal from substitute Michy Batshuayi.

The Telegraph reported last week that Spurs have joined the race to sign 2016 PFA player of the year Mahrez this summer after making an enquiry for him in the January window.

In the video below, from uMAXit Football's YouTube channel, we get to know how Tottenham have adapted to different tactics this season.

But Pochettino has rejected the notion, suggesting that Chelsea's significant spending in the transfer market has been critical to their success.

"It's true maybe that we need some help to try to add always, to improve the squad, and help in that way", he explained, according to Sky Sports. Maybe we are a little bit at a disadvantage.

He is the favourite for the award ahead of Pochettino, who has guided Spurs to a highest-ever Premier League finish of second and a record points haul, despite having the sixth highest wage bill in the division.

With just four defeats in 36 games, Spurs have lost the fewest amount of games this season, have conceded the fewest amount of goals in the Premier League with just 24, and have ended their home campaign without defeat, dropping just four points at White Hart Lane.

"And even the draw, if it is a draw, I never understood well if it is a draw, or if they put the dates into the computer, I never understood that very well", Mourinho said of United's recent fixture list. It will be tough for us and tough for them.

Martin Jol has claimed that Tottenham will be superbly placed to take the next step and win silverware if they sign a dazzling winger this summer. "It would be a mistake to think it will be easy because Man United are focused on the Europa League".
