The rabbit hole appears to have deepened today, as Blizzard has released a new batch of images that offer insight into the events that befell the off-world Horizon Lunar Colony. Apparently, there's been an in-world press conference where Lucheng Interstellar has confirmed "the colony's databases and monitoring systems are still up and running this day".
The question, however, is whether the message means that Overwatch will soon get a new map, a new hero, or both.
"While no direct communication has been established with the facility, the company has successfully retrieved interpersonal logs sent days and moments before the base lost contact with Earth".
Lucheng Interstellar then showed five transmissions that provided clues on what the Horizon Lunar Colony is all about. The final image shoes that two specimens are missing - one named Winston, and the other named Hammond. Enter Winston, one of Overwatch's heroes. He said that "more main core maps" are en route for Overwatch's quick play and competitive modes. According to the intel, some of the animals going through similar genetic therapy that Winston underwent have become unstable and now Winston and another subject who goes by Hammond, are M.I.A.
It's also possible that the colony itself could be a future map.
A post to the Overwatch website also builds on this lore, featuring correspondences between multiple characters.
Some Overwatch players have noted that Blizzard VP Jeff Kaplan did promise a new hero was in the works.
