Confident Guardiola backs Man City: 'We'll be better next season'

Coach Guardiola has recruited Alves in Barcelona from Sevilla in the year 2008 prior to the first season leading the Catalans and the pair to win several title leagues, two in King's Cups and two in Champions League.

SSNHQ has reported that both Manchester City and Chelsea are interested in signing the 34-year-old.

Unless of any big surprises, Alves is expected to become City's third major signing of the summer in the coming days, arriving on a free transfer.

The Brazilian continued: "I don't know what is happening". He appeared on Conversa com Bial in his homeland earlier and was asked about his future plans. I have left the work to my agents in Italy and they have said they would talk to me once they find a resolution on the contract.

"If I leave, it will be without any confrontation and with no problems, as opposed to what is being said".

Speaking at a golf event at the Belfry he said: "I'm happy and the club have made a good effort".

He told Brazilian television channel Globo asked about a move to City: 'Well, everyone knows my admiration for Pep Guardiola'.

Guardiola was keen to add another right-back to his squad following the exits of out-of-contract duo Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta.

He helped the Italian giants to a league and cup double and played a crucial role in driving them to the Champions League final, where they lost 4-1 to Real Madrid.
