On Thursday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming West Indies tour which is scheduled to start on 23rd June.

The decision in this regard is likely to come on Friday after Cricket Advisory Committee - consisting of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman -is likely to meet captain Virat Kohli.

The 19-year-old Pant impressed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 for Delhi Daredevils. It was expected that the senior players could give the series a miss after the hectic home season but it hasn't been the case as India have picked a full-strength side for the short tour.

Youngsters Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav have been included while Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, who are now playing in Champions Trophy in England are omitted. Rohit Sharma who came into the Champions Trophy after recovering from an injury has been left out to avoid another injury.

With Rohit not there, Pant could be a choice for an opener but as has been the norm, Ajinkya Rahane will be the top contender to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan.

The other significant development is that Anil Kumble has agreed to go to the West Indies.

The Indian board said the "administrative staff" of the team would continue.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Pant and spinner Kuldeep are in contention to make their one-day global debuts in the Caribbean.

Fast bowlers Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami are the three seamers.

Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Mohd.
