Markelle Fultz Leaves Summer League Game vs. Warriors with Ankle Injury

Posted July 10, 2017

Markelle Fultz walks on stage with NBA commissioner Adam Silver after being drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The Sixers have stockpiled young talent in recent year, but have failed to break free from the bottom few spots in the Eastern Conference standings.

A local radio station posed that question Sunday morning, several hours after top pick Markelle Fultz suffered an ankle injury during a summer league game in Las Vegas and needed helping leaving the court. Instead, his teammates had to help him down the tunnel and into the locker room to be evaluated by doctors.

According to the report, Fultz is walking without trouble but is likely finished with Summer League play. The team said Fultz will be further evaluated.

"At only 19 years of age, the sky is the limit for Markelle and we could not be happier to have him join our Sixers family", Sixers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo said. "Again, based on the initial diagnosis, you rather hear that than something worse".

Fultz was chasing down Golden State's Jabari Brown midway through the third quarter, but on his way up, Fultz stepped on Brown's foot. He required stitches and did not return to the game. Joel Embiid - who had missed two entire seasons prior due to two foot surgeries - was out with a minor knee injury after dazzling for 31 regular season games.

In all liklihood, Fultz' injury will be minor, he will nurse the sprain and be ready to go in October.
