Too many Windows 10 feature updates?

Posted July 04, 2017

The update will be downloaded and installed automatically through the Windows Update tool, so users should be prepared for some downtime while their PCs do serious reboots as they digest the large files. Starting as a Windows phone app, it transformed over the years and became available for desktop operating systems, including Windows 10.

People on the still-supported Windows 10 November Update (version 1511) and Anniversary Update (version 1607), will receive a gentler reminders from Microsoft to review their privacy settings, which include new choices Microsoft created in response to earlier criticism over Windows 10 privacy and data collection. The new process will mimic the way Microsoft staggers its Windows updates to consumers to better address bugs afflicting specific devices and systems configurations.

It can depend on whether or not there's some major malware outbreak happening now, or not, and it's always important to make, keep and test your regularly run backups - especially before applying updates to an OS environment that is otherwise currently working wonderfully. Even Windows 10 fell victim. It seems the Redmond company is once again trying to encourage users to update their systems, but this time the situation is slightly different. Joe Belfiore, the corporate vice president of Windows, said in a tweet that the Windows 10 Timeline revealed at the Build 2017 developer conference won't debut until after the Fall Creators Update.

As a result it will no longer receive what Microsoft calls monthly "quality" updates, which the firm says contain protection from the "latest security threats".

"To remain secure your device should be updated to the latest feature update", Microsoft's John Cable wrote. We will start sending a notification if your device needs to be updated to the latest feature update. Knowing that Microsoft will release an update in the spring, you can expect Timeline to arrive around March instead of September.

However, just go back through the commentary, coverage, and official content from Microsoft after these announcements landed at Build 2017 and they were distinctly tied to the Fall Creators Update even during the Windows 10 focused Day 2 Keynote by Joe Belfiore. We will continue to evolve our approach in providing a great Windows experience.
