"Top Gun" sequel gets release date

Since then, Top Gun has ended up on my TV well over a dozen times and I've never changed the channel.

Cruise is officially on board to reprise his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, and while he may have been a young lieutenant in the original Top Gun movie, Maverick is now an instructor in the Top Gun program.

And for fans who may not like change so much Tom has previously explained the movie will be similar in tone to the first Top Gun film. Skydance CEO David Ellison and Jerry Bruckheimer, producers of the original return to produce the sequel with Cruise.

CINEMA lovers can enjoy one of the most iconic movies of the 80s in lovely outdoor surroundings.

But that's not all, as Deadline is reporting this week that the blockbuster has secured a prime summer release date, with Top Gun 2 expected to fly into theatres on July 12th, 2019. July 12, 2019. So only an entire year to wait.

Tom Cruise was recently seen in a reboot of The Mummy franchise and the first film in the Dark Universe series - a shared universe of monster characters.

Joseph Kosinski was hired to direct the film, which will be called Top Gun: Maverick.

The actor wouldn't say if any of the other former Top Guns would be returning to their cockpits, but one of his co-stars - Val Kilmer - did take to Instagram to offer his services. That puts it in theaters a week after the planned sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
