Irate Pochettino snaps back at Guardiola over his 'Harry Kane team' comment

Before the worldwide break, Man City boss Guardiola was discussing his side's rivals for the title.

When assessing the strength of City's title rivals, the former Barcelona boss said: "We're in September".

Morata also found the net four times in September with the Spanish worldwide scoring against Leicester before hitting a superb hat-trick during Chelsea's 4-0 win at Stoke. In addition to Chelsea and Man Utd, in reference to Spurs, he said: "We saw again the Harry Kane team scores every day two or three goals".

The 24-year-old also notched goals for England in World Cup Qualifying and Tottenham in the European Cup taking his overall tally for September to 13 in eight matches.

Pochettino, whose team are third in the table and take on Bournemouth at Wembley on Saturday, said Guardiola had not yet apologised.

Pochettino said that Guardiola was "excited" after his side's victory over Chelsea, and joked that he struggled to "keep his position and be a gentleman".

"I never said it was the Messi team". Never in my career have I not been respectful.

Pochettino described Guardiola's comment as "sad" and "unnecessary". I was never disrespectful in a press conference - never.

"When I talked about Harry Kane's team, it was because Harry Kane was scoring a lot of goals, and I know perfectly that Tottenham are not Harry Kane alone".

"It was amusing when I heard him the other day because I know Pep very well".

Tottenham now sits third in England's top flight on 14 points in seven matches, trailing leaders Man City and Man United by five points.

City then prized right-back Kyle Walker from Tottenham during the last transfer window and Guardiola was keen to remind both Pochettino and those present of his previous praise.

"So I think last season, the person who spoke most about appreciating the way Tottenham play was me". "When he lost against Chelsea in the [FA Cup] semi-final, I said it was incredible because Chelsea shot on target four times and scored four goals". Besides, I don't usually associate Guardiola with mind games in the same way I do, say, Jose Mourinho. So I'm really disappointed if he said that. It wasn't disrespectful to me.

"I think Mauricio has made a mistake". Maybe you don't believe, but they are always a contender. "I gave a lot of credit to Tottenham, because last season they finished better than us and that means a lot".
