Overreactions from Nebraska's loss to Wisconsin

Posted October 10, 2017

"I think for a guy that would've played more runner and DB in high school and is a redshirt freshman, he doesn't blink, he's a real competitor". We pride ourselves on being a smart offense running back group.

What Taylor did was all too familiar for the Cornhuskers. In 2014 Gordon ran for a then-NCAA record 408 yards against the Huskers.

Lee added two carries for five yards in the game, as Nebraska managed 110 rushing yards on the night after Patrick O'Brien was sacked for a seven-yard loss on the Huskers' final drive of the game.

UW drove 93 yards on 10 plays for the go-ahead touchdown.

"I thought Tanner played well", NU center Michael Decker said. "Certainly the big run at the end of the first half, but he had some hard 7-, 8-yard runs. We did a good job at keeping our focus knowing we were going to get back out there and try to make more plays". Nebraska (3-3, 2-1) tied the game at 17 with 10:43 left in the third quarter when Aaron Williams intercepted an Alex Hornibrook pass and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown. Last week Wisconsin defeated Northwestern 33-24, using a strong second half and two Jonathan Taylor touchdowns to overcome a sluggish start that saw them down 10-7 at halftime.

"We were getting engulfed, and they were actually making our secondary tackle by bouncing that ball on the corner actually using the wide receiver to block the safety", Riley said.

The Wisconsin Badgers (4-0) can put a firm grip on the B10 West with a victory today at Nebraska. Running back Akrum Wadley and the Iowa defense have all you need to take down Nebraska.

The Huskers were hurt by a pick-six by Wisconsin's Chris Orr on the opening drive when they were in scoring position. The result was Lee's fourth pick-six of the season.

Before the break, the Huskers navigated the field for a Drew Brown field goal to reach the half time score.

The Nebraska offense had more than 300 yards in the first half, including a Tanner Lee to Stanley Morgan Jr.

"The momentum had shifted, and we didn't want to end (the half) with the momentum shifted to the other team", Taylor said.

"I think it's just about finishing", Lee said. "We started to play complementary football. It was there and it was great execution".

Nebraska continues Big Ten home action against another top-10 opponent next Saturday, when the Huskers take on Ohio State at Memorial Stadium at 6:30 p.m. (CT). Overall, the Badgers have allowed just 13.5 points per game and have been especially effective against the run, allowing 74.3 rushing yards per game in a run-heavy conference. The 21-point loss was their most lopsided since Iowa beat them by the same score in 2013 and only increases the pressure on Riley.

Wisconsin hosts Purdue and will go for its 12th straight win in the series.

This speaks volumes about determining what exactly has been the best moment of the first half for a program like Nebraska, but the bar was lowered so low that coming up with back-to-back wins against Rutgers and IL really has been the best moment of the season for the Cornhuskers midway through the year.
