SNES Classic Stock Updates For September 30

Posted October 01, 2017

Anyone in the know about Nintendo's doings is not only aware that the SNES Classic Edition is out as of today, but that it is also really hard to obtain. Reviews have been nearly universally positive for the small console, which is not surprising, so a lot of folks will probably also be in the market for accessories - like this new wireless SNES-inspired retro gamepad from 8bitdo. Reddit user SpongeFreak52 has managed to share the good news early, however, as they received their SNES Classic early due to Best Buy apparently messing up on shipping. It sold out from pre-orders in mere minutes.

Bob Puzon, GameStop's VP of Merchandising, has already released a statement about the success of the SNES Classic launch and the possibility of finding one on shelves in the near future...

The NES Classic and SNES Classic feature identical controller ports - it happens to be the same port that the Wii used - and we can confirm that the two consoles' throwback gamepads are interchangeable. The game system is valued at about $80.00, and includes two game controllers.

How awesome is the Super Nintendo - with games like Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Starfox, Donkey Kong Country, it's loved by an entire generation of gamers.

There are 21 games pre-installed on the console with favourites like Donkey Kong Country and The Legend of Zelda and unreleased until now, Star Fox 2. I flashed a 27c160 EPROM with the rom extracted from a SNES Classic.

You can buy 6 foot or 10 foot SNES Classic Controller extension cables that allow you to lean back on the couch and play without going big on wireless controllers. It comes preloaded with twenty-one original games. But you can argue that's perhaps part of the charm.

More than any other feature, the Virtual Console gets brought up as the one thing sorely missing from the Switch.

Target (tgt) has promised that each of its stores will have SNES Classic Edition units available.
