We are ready to buy Coutinho in January - Barcelona chief warns Liverpool

Posted October 12, 2017

Barcelona had a number of bids rejected in the summer for the 25-year-old with Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) insisting that no offers would be considered no matter how high.

Liverpool are understood to be angered by Barcelona's latest attempt to unsettle their player and could do without the distraction in the week they lost Sadio Mane for six weeks to a hamstring injury on worldwide duty.

Just when Liverpool thought they had a battle on their hands to keep Philippe Coutinho out of Barcelona's clutches, a new club has entered the race to sign the Brazilian.

"The words of Oscar Grau were "if we had to pay for him, we've got the money for him".

But Grau made clear the Spanish giants had not given up the chase.

'We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market, or any player the technical staff request, ' Grau said. "We want to have the team as competitive as possible ".

Barcelona's summer interest appeared to have an affect on Coutinho.

After missing the first seven games of Liverpool's campaign, the attacking midfielder has scored in their last three matches. The Reds were unmoved when Coutinho officially asked him to be sold.

Barcelona have signalled their intentions to revive efforts to sign Liverpool's Philippe Coutino when the transfer window opens in January.

At the time of writing, there are 20 more players to be revealed - at which point we will know who Coutinho is competing with for the award.
