Jude Law Lands 'Captain Marvel' Male Lead Role

Carol Danvers received her powers following an incident in which Mar-Vell's Kree DNA was fused with her human DNA during an explosion, imbuing her with the powers of flight and super strength.

The 44-year-old actor is reportedly in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming film, according to Variety.

Sources have toldVariety that The Talented Mr. Ripley star is now in negotiations to play Doctor Walter Lawson, otherwise known as Mar-Vell, the Kree Hero who was the original Captain Marvel in the comics. The Jude Law Captain Marvel news comes from trade paper Variety. Already on board to play the title character is none other than Oscar-winner Brie Larson.

The whole Captain/Ms. Marvel thing could event be skipped over in the film by having Law's Kree Warrior be known as simply Mar-Vell and providing Danvers with the inspiration for her nom de guerre. He is also still attached to appear in a third Sherlock Holmes movie with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. Samuel L. Jackson is supposed to make an appearance as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel as well. Both of those films are set up at Warner Brothers.

"Captian Marvel" is due out on March 8, 2019.

The mentor of Captain Marvel has been found. Set to play the villain is Star Wars alum Ben Mendelsohn, who played the reprehensible Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
