Waze Is the First GPS App to Support Carpool Lanes

Posted November 30, 2017

An evolution of the existing Waze Voice Commands, you can now initiate your drive, get a preview of the route ahead, send reports, and add a pit stop-all without lifting a finger from the wheel.

The new motorbike option will make Waze more useful and enjoyable for those who enjoy riding on two wheels, and the Talk to Waze feature allows complete handsfree interaction with a new hotword "Ok Waze". There are three oft-requested features rolling out with this update, and they all center around making Waze a more personalized experience. The team behind the crowd-sourced navigation app says that this is one of the "biggest Waze app updates ever", and for good reason.

Waze is getting a couple of new features today as the Google-owned navigation app targets two-wheeled motorists and doubles down on its safety credentials.

To activate this feature, go into the Sounds & Voice menu within Waze and select "Talk to Waze" followed by "OK Waze".

Drivers who use specialized lanes will appreciate the last new feature: high occupancy vehicle (HOV) route support, which Waze claims is the first for any navigation app. Users who can take advantage of specialized lanes for carpooling or fuel efficient or electric vehicles can now customize their app to include the routes in their navigation.

In addition, the new Waze 4.33 update will see a new feature allowing drivers and motorcyclists to get to their destination with two simple words - "OK Waze".

Waze also introduced a carpool mode, available only in the US and Canada, which suggests additional navigation options for high-occupancy-vehicle lanes (carpool lanes).

Talk to Waze is available to English-speaking users in Canada, the US, UK, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand, with more languages coming soon.

Waze is initially rolling out HOV route support in 21 states plus Washington, D.C.; Toronto; Vancouver; and Montreal. The company said that the more riders use the Waze motorcycle mode, the "smarter the routing will become". Just hit your settings to tell Waze that's what you're driving, and routes will be optimized for your hog.
