The police official further said that some miscreants pelted stones at security forces during the operation, prompting use of crowd control weapons, including tear gas to disperse them.
As per local sources, the militants were trapped in the house of one Muhammad Yakub.
In the latest clash, two suspected militants were shot dead in a firefight that began Monday evening in southern Shopian district, inspector general of police Munir Ahmed Khan told AFP.
During an overnight encounter, two militants were killed by the security forces while Ruby Jan alias Beauty was injured during the exchange of fire.
As per the recent reports, two militants were killed and an army jawan was reportedly injured in an encounter near Shopian district. The government forces responded with bullets and pellet fires.
Beauty was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to injuries. Another foreign militant was identified as Ali @Qari and from their possession two AK rifles and other ammunition was recovered.
The identity of the militants is being ascertained, said the police. While the cordon was being laid, hiding militants fired upon the joint search party, thus starting an encounter.
"Around 24 civilians were brought to our hospital out of which we referred some 11 people to Srinagar hospitals for specialized treatment".
"A bullet hit a lady in the abdomen at her home while she was cleaning the doorway of her house. The cordon was strengthened and the civilians of nearby area were evacuated", a police spokesman said. The militants continued firing on the security forces which was retaliated, " added a police official.
Two security personnel including a jawan of 44 RR and a cop were also injured during the encounter.
