Jimbo Fisher leaving FSU to become head coach at Texas A&M

CT, leading to speculation that Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher may be meeting with Texas A&M officials to finalize a contract to become the school's next football coach. FSU (5-6) needs a win to become bowl eligible. Defensive line coach Odell Haggins will be the interim coach.

A private flight is scheduled to leave Tallahassee early Friday for College Station, Texas.

Some players took to Twitter after Fisher's resignation and had mixed opinions.

He had been coaching the team for eight years with a 83-23 record.

At Florida State Fisher was the 5th highest paid coach in the nation, earning $5.7 million a year. "I've been waiting to come to this school and it's like really upsetting".

Mike Gundy, who affirmed his commitment to Oklahoma State this week following reported interest from Tennessee, got a $675,000 pay increase, bumping his salary to $5 million per year.

Fisher previously spent time at Auburn (1993-1998) and LSU (2000-06) as an assistant coach, making this a return to the SEC. They are 19-12 in their last 31 games, including 10-10 in the ACC.

Sumlin went 51-26 in six seasons with the Aggies.

On ESPNU SiriusXM radio Thursday, Fisher said he was not going to talk about potential jobs.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney: "Evidently he feels like that's the right move for him and his family and the right time to do so". We play Texas A&M the next two years. They'll hire a great coach. The top name so far has been first-year OR coach Willie Taggart, who took over at OR last offseason after turning around the South Florida program. I don't have any doubt about that.
