We are entering the peak of flu season much earlier this year, so if you haven't gotten a flu shot yet, please get one.

During the week of December 3, Mountain States and Wellmont hospitals recorded 54 positive flu cases.

In the 2015-16 flu season, 6,144 flu cases were reported in El Paso County, compared to 5,844 the previous year.

Although the county has plenty vaccine to go around, Thompson said it seems that fewer people are getting flu vaccinations this year.

"Pregnant women and their young infants are at high risk for serious complications from the flu", said Dr. Clint Koenig, Medical Director of the Ohio Department of Health.

Flu can be very contagious.

The adult flu vaccine is available at the Dallas County immunization clinic located at 2377 N. Stemmons Fwy and the children's vaccine is available at all Dallas County Health and Human Services immunization clinics.

The Centers for Disease Control continues to recommend an annual flu vaccine for all people ages six months and older.

Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs. Cover your mouth when you cough.

Many Arkansans will be getting something they didn't really ask for this Christmas - the flu. The flu virus can spread a day before symptoms develop, and five to seven days after becoming sick.

The increase has prompted DPHHS to encourage people to take precautions to protect themselves as they travel over the Christmas holiday. She has worked at Peterson Health for about one year.
