Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos was chosen as the second center-back, along with his left-back teammate Marcelo.

And while there have been disappointments for both club and country in 2017, Gianluigi Buffon will be happy to have been selected between the sticks.

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid): 73.7%.

Luka Modric (Real Madrid): 48.5%.

A total 8,779,639 votes were recorded to rake up Messi for the 9th time straight in 10 years and Ronaldo for record 11th straight time. With one more appearance, he will be equalling former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas' record of most UEFA team of the year mentions.

The Belgian duo are the only Premier League selections included in the list, with the team dominated by five selections from back-to-back Champions League winners Real Madrid.

However, the Spurs and England forward was absent from the 2017 Team of the Year, voted for by football fans and tallied by UEFA. The team was selected from a shortlist by UEFA.com users via a voting system.
