Camila admits she was shocked when, this past August, Fifth Harmony's performance at the MTV VMAs took a dig at her, showing an unseen fifth member being yanked offstage. 'I wasn't expecting it, I wasn't prepared for it - especially because, at that point, I'd moved on.' Camila is celebrating the release of her debut solo album today.
"I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life", she continued.
The former Fifth Harmony singer, 20, released the track back in August (17), and it has since gone double platinum in the USA, climbing to number two on this week's (begs08Jan18) Billboard Hot 100.
"I'd just say congratulations", said Elton.
This is the first time Cabello has spoken about her departure from Fifth Harmony in depth and their VMA performance. "I was just curious and I wanted to learn and I saw all these people around me making music, writing songs and being so free", she told the newspaper.
The singer said it soon became clear that she couldn't balance her solo endeavours whilst remaining in the group, and made the hard decision to break away from the band to pursue her dreams.
"It definitely hurt my feelings", Camila admitted, the writer pointing out that her eyes welled up with emotion while reliving the moment.
While Brooke defended the visual by stating that it wasn't a direct slam at Cabello, the nasty press swirling around the band's split made it crystal clear that in the end, only four members were left standing. It'd be interesting to hear that version of an album that's clearly been through a lot of tinkering and sequencing, especially if some of what got chucked was more autobiographical about her recent career turns.
