Wellington vampire movie to be remade as pilot for US TV series

Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's cult hit comedy WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is in development as a TV series at FX, Tracking Board has learned.

After being linked to Akira and hinting at a possible Star Wars film, it seems that Waititi will be sticking to his roots because he's bringing What We Do In The Shadows to the small screen after a pilot was given the greenlight at FX. Both have promised to be very hands-on with the pilot. Waititi and Clement are also developing a spinoff film, We're Wolves, based on the pack of werewolves who cause trouble for our nightwalking protagonists and Wellington Paranormal about the inept cops who briefly investigate the roommates.

What We Do in the Shadows was a fun mockumentary that chronicled the lives of vampires living in Wellington.

Here's hoping the heads at FX won't have to be subjected to the procession of shame.

Other executive producers of the series aside from Waititi and Clement are Eli Bush (Ladybird), Scott Rudin (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Paul Simms (Atlanta), and Garrett Basch (The Night Of).

Kayvan Novak (Four Lions, Rev) will play Nandor, the alpha-male vampire of the house; Matt Berry (The I.T. Crowd) will play the comically stupid Lazslo; while Natasia Demetriou (Sick Note) will play "badass" vampire Nadja.

The Wellington movie What We Do In the Shadows is to be remade as a half-hour pilot for a potential series on United States television. The two also starred in the film.
