AIADMK to make changes to Jayalalithaa statue following outburst

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches the AIADMK led-Tamil Nadu government's scheme for women to buy two wheelers at 50 per cent subsidy in Chennai's Kalaivanar Arangam on Saturday.

"When we empower women, the entire household is empowered". When we help with a woman's education, we ensure that the whole family is educated. The Centre is working in this direction, he added.

He also reiterated the need to empower women to empower the entire household.

The AIADMK has launched "Amma" scooter subsidy scheme, which will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"On this auspicious occasion I request you (Modi) to take appropriate action for the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board and for implementing Cauvery regulation committee as per the SC guidance", he said, addressing PM Modi.

Underlining the importance of woman in a family and society, he said empowering a woman is empowering a whole family.

Modi arrived in Chennai on Saturday evening after an event in Daman and Diu, where he launched a number of projects for the Union territory. They include reduction of provident fund contribution of women employees from 12 per cent to 8 per cent for three years while the contribution of the employer would remain at 12 per cent.

The Prime Minister further said that with the change in Factory's Act, women are now allowed to work in night shifts as well. "Be it financial inclusion, easy availability of credit for farmers and small business, healthcare or sanitation, this is the basic mantra, with which the NDA Government at the Centre is working", he said.

Among the 31 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts, meant for the poorest of the poor, 16 crore were of women. This had also reduced the carbon dioxide emissions.

The Central government has sanctioned Rs 3,700 crore for the Chennai Metro Rail project, he said.

"When Congress was ruling, Tamil Nadu received Rs 81,000 crore under the 13th Finance Commission".
