Indianapolis Colts name Josh McDaniels next head coach

The Indianapolis Colts have finally announced New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their new head coach.

In fact, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reported that the deal is nearing its completion.

It appears McDaniels' Colts coaching staff is taking shape, as Indy reportedly has contracts in place with three new assistants: defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, offensive line coach (and former Patriots assistant) Dave DeGuglielmo and defensive line coach Mike Phair.

And in Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Brady, despite the loss of speedy receiver Brandin Cooks, threw for a record 505 yards. He replaces Chuck Pagano, who was sacked on December 31 after six seasons.

And after taking his time to find the right job, he made a decision to become the Indianapolis Colts' next head coach.

This basically confirms Belichick will be back coaching next season, and now the team needs to find a new offensive coordinator.

Whatever the case, McDaniels ultimately chose to follow through and take the Colts job. Lewis is the flawless example of a player who found a way to thrive after seemingly everyone had given up on them; players like that are a specialty of both Ballard (who brought in 2017 Colts sack leaders Jabaal Sheard and John Simon) and McDaniels (who turned college lacrosse star Chris Hogan into an National Football League wideout). He was sacked in December 2010 after the underachieving and splintered Broncos posted an 11-17 record on his watch.

The Patriots have lost both their coordinators to head coaching positions.

Playing personnel may also change, with star tight end Rob Gronkowski hinting he may retire in the aftermath of Sunday's Super Bowl loss in Minneapolis.

The Colts likely want that same success with Andrew Luck, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury for the entire 2017 season.

"I'm definitely going to look at my future for sure", Gronkowski told reporters. The team is expected to make the official announcement at a press conference this week.
