Sunjuwan Army camp attack: Second terrorist gunned down

At least two terrorists stormed into the Army camp and started firing indiscriminately which killed a soldier and injuring six other.

The army officer said Subedar Madanlal Chowdhary and Havildar Habibullah Quereshi, both hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, were killed and nine others - four army personnel and five women and children - were injured in the attack.

"There have been more than half-a-dozen attacks so far wherein Jaish suicide attackers operatives have left notes and painted walls before being killed that the strike was carried out by the Afzal Guru Squad", the official added.

A defence PRO said, "The Army has killed two heavily armed terrorists".

Jammu: In what is no less than a miracle, a pregnant woman, who was seriously injured during the terror attack on an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Sunjwan area, delivered a baby girl following a Caesarean surgery. In a tweet, she said, "Deeply disturbed by the terrorist attack in Sunjwan today".

The Indian Army has lit up the entire area and is moving cautiously to avoid any collateral damage due to the presence of families of Army jawans inside the camp.

The two slain soldiers are from Jammu. "We have ordered closure of schools in Sunjwan area as a precautionary measure in the wake of the attack", a spokesman of the Jammu divisional commissioner's office said.

He informed the House that during the operation, Colonel Rohit Solanki, Havaldar Abdul Hamid and Lance Naik Bahadur Singh and Neha daughter of Subedar Madan Lal Chowdhary were injured. Following the attack, a high alert was sounded in Jammu and security was beefed up in and around the city. "The army needs to out more resources in guarding its installations", said Chaudhary, a retired IPS officer. The attack is said to have begun around 5:00 am in the morning. "Now the attack has been contained and operation is still in progress".

While security forces were busy engaging the Pakistani terrorists, J-K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met and poke to the injured at the hospital.

The quick reaction teams of the Indian Army and reinforcements were immediately rushed to the spot to contain the terrorists inside one of the buildings.

S.D. Singh Jamwal, the inspector general of police in Jammu, said that at about 4:55 a.m., a guard noticed suspicious movement before gunfire on his bunker.
