Unstoppable Manchester City prove too good for Chelsea

Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 to inch closer to winning the English Premier League title as Bernardo Silva victor leaves Antonio Conte's side five points adrift in top four race in a match played last night.

It was the Blues' fourth loss in five league games and left them five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with nine games to play, heaping further pressure on a manager whose long-term future was already uncertain.

"Of course, I don't even question myself about that [if the dressing room is still behind the boss]", he added.

"You have to accept every criticism, but I am not so stupid to play open against Manchester City and to lose 3-0 or 4-0".

Speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Neville said: "In the end it was a game of frustration where they were booting it clear to a helpless Hazard up front. We are on a very good way and, if we have to play one day against them, we want to be ready". "We have some great players and a great team but obviously, today, Manchester City deserved to win".

Next Wednesday, Chelsea have the daunting task of a second leg in the Champions League last 16 away to Barcelona, with the tie standing at 1-1 after the home game.

Reuters picMANCHESTER, March 7 ― Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes winning the Premier League title early might not be a good thing for the club's Champions League ambitions as any drop in intensity could derail their European campaign.

Although Gundogan disputes that the Premier League champions elect are favourites for the Champions League as well, he admits that the best is yet to come for Pep Guardiola's side.

Of course we have five away games left having now won eleven of our fourteen. "We need momentum to reach fourth place".

"When you leave the pitch you have the impression that you've ran, but that you haven't played a game of football - that's a pity", he told Belgian publication HLN.

"A few days ago, Arsenal played twice against them and then you criticised [Arsenal manager Arsene] Wenger a lot because they conceded three goals in only 30 minutes". That meant Chelsea, despite not having a shot on target, stayed alive in the game until the end and they could have vindicated Conte's defensive tactics had they managed an equaliser. We make an unbelievable high pressing, they could not contact with Hazard, Willian or Pedro (Rodriguez).

Indeed, Leroy Sane got past several Chelsea players all too easily in the 20th minute to set up Bernardo Silva for a chance at goal although he could only fire his shot over the bar.
